Project Design
The project has been extended and therefore prolongated until August 31, 2013.
- During the first stage, empirical research centered upon the companies, more specifically upon their career structures and their gender-specific impact.
- During the second stage, this company-related approach has been complemented and completed by a focus on the individuals. Individual career strategies are investigated as they form in relationship to enterprise requirements, individual orientations toward work and profession, and private arrangements of life.
Both stages combined qualitative and quantitative methods. We concentrate our investigation upon three industries that are seminal for career chances of women but also for the future of work as a whole. Results from IT industry and electrical engineering industry throw a light upon the opportunities of high-skilled women in technical professions whereas the banking sector is a traditional field of high-skilled female occupation in the service sector.
- In the additional stage of the project the empirical results serve as the foundation to develop measures in and for the companies that improve women's career opportunities.
